I recently got to chat with Mike Bledsoe, the guy behind Barbell Shrugged.
He is a great guy with a TON of knowledge, and I know a lot of you follow his show, so I wanted to do an interview with him. Originally, I was just going to record our phone call then transcribe the important parts like I did when I interviewed Ben Smith. But I decided to take a stab at posting a podcast-like post here at End of Three Fitness; the first ever.
So, upfront, I will apologize for my poor interviewing skills and overall audio quality. But hey, I had a great time interviewing Mike and he had a lot of great information to share. I’m thinking of doing more of these in the future!
I broke our conversation down into sections below, but of you want to listen to each section all together in one audio file, just click here. Otherwise, enjoy the show!
How Barbell Shrugged Got Started
Takeaway: Just like a fitness program or diet; don’t worry so much about what others are doing, doing things the “right†way or doing things perfectly. The most important thing is starting! So long as the passion is there, it will turn into something.

The Science Behind One Man One Barbell
Takeaway: If you want a successful strength training program you can’t just focus on one method. You NEED the three main methods of maximal effort method, sub maximal effort method and the dynamic effort method.
Teaser: I talk about some “Human Performance Testing” I went through, and you may want to know more about that…I am doing a full blog post on the tests and results, so that’s why I didn’t get too far into it with Mike.

Strength Training and CrossFit, or Running or [INSERT your sport here]
Takeaway: Strength training is going to help you in any activity you are doing whether it is running, CrossFit or MMA. But you need to make sure you are developing your program off of your goals, not just random strength programs. Listen to the audio: Mike talks about the importance of strength training and heart health too!

Mental Toughness, Meditation, Motivation and the Mind
Takeaway: The first place to start is with your sleep and nutrition! After that you can start trying to implement strategies like visualization, mediation, etc.
